Companies have tried to solve this with an intranet homepage. It holds the right information, and nobody opens it, because it lives behind a bookmark and a login. A new tab page needs no bookmark. It is already open before the person decides where to go.
OrgOrg New Tab ships in the OrgOrg browser extension. An admin arranges the org default layout, every member inherits it, and each person adds, removes, and moves cards on their own overlay. A links card shows the org's popular go links by default. Switch it to your own links, the ones you opened last, this week's trending links, the newest, one link group, or a hand-picked list.
The org, on the page
Admins post markdown announcements and pin the ones that matter. The on-call card names the current shift and any open incident. Goals, the daily icebreaker question, and a team card with recent hires sit beside them.
Cards from any feed
Point a news card at an RSS or JSON feed. Add a world clock for the Berlin office, the weather, a countdown to launch, a live status page, or a private notes pad. Custom cards run in a sandboxed iframe.
One org layout, personal overlays
An admin arranges the org default layout: cards, wallpaper, theme. Every member inherits it, then adds, removes, moves, and resizes cards on their own overlay. Undo with Cmd-Z. Push a card when something matters, and retire it when it is done.
Day one
A new hire installs the extension and opens a tab. The org default layout is there: the handbook and payroll go links, the welcome announcement, the standup on the calendar, and the name of the person on call today. Nobody sent a list of URLs. Nobody has to.
The page stays correct as the company changes. When the handbook moves, the go link moves with it. When the rotation changes, the on-call card changes. The onboarding doc that rots in a wiki has become a page that reads live data.
Why a shared start page compounds
An intranet works only when people visit it. A new tab page works because people open tabs. The value is not in the cards. It is in the number of times a day they are seen.
Zero clicks to open
A bookmark needs a click. An intranet needs a login. A new tab needs Cmd-T, which people press dozens of times a day anyway. The page is seen because it is on the way to everything else.
One place to say it
A Slack message is gone by lunch. A pinned announcement on the new tab page stays until an admin unpins it. Push a card when a deadline needs attention, and everyone sees it on their next tab.
Personal, not enforced
The org default is the floor, not the ceiling. Each person adds a clock, a note pad, a news feed, and removes what they do not use. A member can turn the page off. An admin can turn it off for the org.

The OrgOrg Chrome extension registers a new tab override, the standard browser mechanism for a custom new tab page. When you press Cmd-T or click the plus, the browser opens OrgOrg New Tab instead of the default page. The same extension resolves go/ links in the address bar, so one install covers both.

Retiring keeps a personal copy for members who had notes or state on the card, so nothing they wrote is lost.

Yes. Select up to twenty cards and create a share link, or publish a card to the org gallery so anyone in the company can add it. Administrators decide whether members may publish to the org gallery, publish publicly, and upload their own wallpapers.
Every card reads a viewer-scoped query, so the page shows each person only what they can already see in OrgOrg. The runway card shows months of runway to every member, and dollar amounts only to people with finance access. Feed URLs are validated before they are saved, and secrets are rejected.
OrgOrg New Tab runs in the OrgOrg Chrome extension. Chromium browsers that install Chrome Web Store extensions, such as Edge, Brave, and Arc, use the same new tab override. The editor, the gallery, and the feed settings live in the OrgOrg web app.
